Recently, the European Commission and the Joint Research Center presented results and the path forward with the Commission’s Safe and Sustainable by-Design initiative at their 4th Stakeholder Workshop on feedback from the 1st reporting period:
- Feedback givers, including SusChem stakeholders, perceived that input given during the March 2023 Commission survey and the 1st feedback period (May-June 2023) was accounted for in the planned path forward to deepen the guidance on the SSbD framework (to be published in spring 2024).
- However, participants to the workshop also agreed that the framework still is perceived as too complex, not sufficiently aligned with typical industrial innovation processes, and challenging regarding data generation and sharing. Addition, the inclusion of expert judgement and indicative screenings especially for lower TRL levels are seen as crucial.
SusChem continues to commit to working with the European Commission during the two-year testing period, encouraging our broad stakeholder community to continue to give feedback on the application of the framework and, thus, to give feedback pertaining to real results on the ground.
